Clash of Clans has introduced two fantastic methods to speed up your village’s progress: the Goblin Builder (or Goblin Worker) and the Goblin Researcher. The Goblin Builder is a helpful little Goblin who can kickstart new upgrades when all of your builders are already occupied.
Meanwhile, the Goblin Researcher is another Goblin that comes to your help, allowing you to initiate an additional upgrade in your Laboratory. Now, let’s look into the specifics of both the Goblin Builder and the Goblin Researcher.
How to get Goblin Builder and Researcher
Goblin Builder and Goblin Researcher would become available through a new event named “Work for Hire”. This event is scheduled to occur once every few months, giving you the opportunity to employ a helpful Goblin as an additional builder for your village.
The first “Work for Hire” event started on 11th October 2023. This event is planned to run for an extensive duration of 2 months, concluding in the month of December.
During the event, a Goblin will be showcased near the Trader’s Tent, ready for hire. The Goblin Builder will be available to players at Town Hall 7 or higher who have already unlocked all five builders.
Here are the requirements for hiring the Goblin Builder and Goblin Researcher:
- The Work for Hire event must be active.
- Your Town Hall must be at level 7 or higher.
- You must have all five builders unlocked.
- You must have a certain amount of gems available for hiring a Goblin Builder. Gem cost would be based on the following formula: upgrade days * 40 (walls require 10 gems).
- Resources are required to start an upgrade with a Goblin Builder or Researcher.
How to Start an Upgrade with Goblin Builder
During the “Work for Hire” event, if all your regular builders are occupied with ongoing upgrades and you wish to begin a new upgrade for your village, a prompt will appear, suggesting that you hire a Goblin Builder.
Similarly, if you have an ongoing upgrade in your Laboratory and desire to start an extra upgrade, a prompt will guide you to hire a Goblin Researcher.
To start an upgrade with Goblin Worker, you’ll need a specific number of gems. The calculation is straightforward: it’s 40 gems multiplied by the number of days the upgrade will take.
For example, if you plan to begin a 2-day upgrade, you’ll require 80 gems (40 gems * 2 days).
In the case of instant upgrades like walls, you’ll need a smaller amount of gems—specifically, 10 gems for each wall. So, if all your regular builders are occupied and you want to upgrade walls using the Goblin Worker, it will cost you 10 gems for each wall he upgrades.
If you decide to cancel an ongoing upgrade that the Goblin Builder is working on, you won’t receive a refund of the gems spent. However, you will recover 50% of the resources used for that upgrade.
