TH16 Upgrade Order Guide – Clash of Clans

TH16 Upgrade Order Clash of Clans

Being a Town Hall 16 player means you’ve got to upgrade your buildings, heroes, and troops wisely. This helps you keep up with other Town Hall 16 players in trophy-pushing and clan wars.

This article will explore the best order for upgrading your TH16 base. We’ve done a lot of research and talked to experienced players to bring you this information.

Buildings Upgrade Order

Here are some of the most important upgrades at TH16, listed in order:

  • Laboratory
  • Blacksmith
  • Pet House
  • Heroes (2 at a time)
  • Air Defense
  • Merge Defenses
  • X-Bows
  • Bomb Tower
  • Mortar
  • Air Bomb
  • Giant Bomb
  • Bomb
  • Storages
  • Walls

The logic behind these upgrades

Town Hall 16 is still pretty new, and there aren’t many upgrades available for defenses at this level. It’s tough to defend your base by just upgrading defenses, so it’s smarter to focus on improving your offense first. This means aiming for three stars against other TH16 and TH15 bases in trophy-pushing or clan wars.

When you hit Town Hall 16, kick things off by upgrading the Laboratory with your first builder. This unlocks new levels for your troops, and having stronger troops is important for taking on other TH16 bases. Use your second builder to upgrade the Blacksmith, which gives three more upgrade levels for Giant Gauntlet and Frozen Arrow.

Then, allocate your third builder to upgrade the Pet House and unlock the Spirit Fox. This pet is handy for your Barbarian King, so get it and upgrade it quickly.

With three builders occupied, you still have three more. Use one on the Archer Queen and another on the Grand Warden, taking them to their maximum levels. Move these builders to the next two heroes, Barbarian King and Royal Champion, and max them out too. Offense upgrades are now complete; let’s shift to defenses.

Defenses

At TH16, air attacks are pretty common, especially with Electro Dragons. Prioritize upgrading two Air Defenses simultaneously. Next, work on merging defenses which is available at TH16, like creating Multi Archer Towers and Ricochet Cannons. These merges not only add damage value but also free up space for better base layouts. Afterward, focus on X-Bows, upgrading them to level 11 for increased hitpoints and damage.

Don’t forget Bomb Towers; they play a major role in countering new Root Rider attack strategies. Follow it up with Mortars at the end of your defense priority list due to their lower damage per second and slow attack rate. For traps, upgrade Air Bombs first, then Giant Bombs, and finally regular Bombs, considering the frequency of air attacks at TH16.

Walls and Storages

Storages are at the bottom of the priority list. You don’t need to upgrade them to start any upgrades at TH16, so leave them for later as they demand a lot of time and resources. Keep one builder free for walls during trap and storage upgrades so you can consistently invest extra resources into walls to max them out quickly.

Troops Upgrade Order

Here are some of the most important troop upgrades at TH16, listed in order:

  • Electro Dragon
  • Lightning Spell
  • Root Rider
  • Healer
  • Witch
  • Balloons
  • Wizards
  • Poison Spell
  • Dragon
  • Dragon Rider
  • Miner
  • Valkyrie
  • PEKKA
  • Golem
  • Wall Breaker
  • Giant
  • Archer
  • Barbarian
  • Recall Spell
  • Healing Spell

The logic behind these upgrades

When you’re upgrading troops in the Laboratory, it’s smart to focus on ones that give you the most bang for your buck. At Town Hall 16, Electro Dragons are the top choice for many players. They’re easy to use and highly effective, so upgrading them should be your first priority.

Following that, upgrade your Lightning Spell since it pairs well with Electro Dragons, especially for taking out tough defenses like the Eagle Artillery. To take down an Eagle Artillery at Town Hall 16, one Earthquake Spell and seven Lightning Spells should suffice.

The second most popular troop at Town Hall 16 is the Root Rider, so upgrading it early is wise. This allows you to have it ready for use when your Electro Dragon strategy might not be the best fit for certain bases.

Next in line are Healers, especially if you’re a fan of the Queen Charge strategy. If not, you can delay this upgrade and move on to the Witch. Witches receive a new upgrade at Town Hall 16, making them a common choice for three-starring other TH16 bases when paired with Root Riders.

Balloons are up next due to their multiple uses. They can be used in a Queen Charge to disable air traps or as part of LavaLoon attack strategy. Wizards follow because this upgrade improves the Super Wizard, a common troop for creating funnels and providing extra damage support to the Barbarian King.

Consider upgrading the Poison Spell next, as it proves useful in various situations, such as dealing with enemy heroes or Clan Castle troops. Moving on, Dragons and Dragon Riders are next in line. The order of upgrading them depends on your preference for which troop you prefer to use more.

Next, consider upgrading Miners, another popular troop for the Hybrid Attack Strategy, which can still be effective with a slight variation at Town Hall 16. This upgrade also benefits Super Miners, offering another powerful option for your attack strategies.

The remaining troops are less critical, and the order of their upgrades depends on personal preferences. However, Barbarians hold a specific importance among these lower-priority upgrades. Their super version, the Super Barbarian, is widely used for resource farming from enemy bases. Personally, I find them very effective for farming purposes.

Conclude your troop upgrades with the Healing Spell and Recall Spell, placing them at the end of your priority list. These spells are considered less essential at Town Hall 16.
